In May 1984, Margaret & Gerry Grey started their specialist collectors shop in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, England in the converted oak beam gallery on the top floor of Gerry's  Consulting  Engineers  offices. Margaret & Gerry Grey was the second specialist teddy bear shop to be opened in Britain.  Soon afterwards they moved 15 yards over the road to an old shop and 9 years later they moved to a beautiful listed building only  next  door  which  they occupied until recently when they moved to a new showroom right in the town centre--'on bankers row' !
The Grey's have always emphasised the importance of providing their customers with the worlds best quality bears, but also sincere and honest advice, and, dedicated service.
In the mid 1980's the Greys introduced Britain and Europe to the world of the Artist bear when they started to sell exclusively the very best American artist bears.
Subsequently to help improve the skills and knowledge of British Bear Makers they produced a series of Masterclasses with guest instructor Steve Schutt, Joan Woesner, Maria Sibol and Rosalie Frischmann.  A couple of years later they produced more courses with top British Artists Jo Greeno and Janet Clark which also were hugely successful.
The Grey's have always had a keen eye for discovering potential home based talent and have been responsible for encouraging and promoting a great many of the best British artists several of whom deservedly gained International recognition.  They remain proud of their involvement with the bear artist movement throughout the world and at home.
Margaret and Gerry produced the first International Teddy Bear Convention to be held in Europe in Easter 1993.  This was a charitable fund raising event with special guest top teddy bear artists and personalities from all over the World producing a plethora of stimulating workshops and discussion groups.  Carol-Lynn Rossell Waugh the renowned American Teddybear artist and author described the convention as one of the three most important landmark events for the International Artist.
Gerry is the teddy bear consultant for Teddy Bear Times and is also author of several teddy bear  books and is acknowledged worldwide for his extensive knowledge on all aspects of bear collecting ranging from old to new.  The Greys have been justifiably proud of their achievements and for being responsible for many of the initiatives that have occurred in the UK over the past 20 years.
